With footage not seen in some original Woodstock documentaries, Jimi Hendrix is the focus of this story of his performance at Woodstock in Bethel, New York, in August of 1969. Containing fifty-seven minutes of Hendrix music, made with his new backup group called The Band of Gypsies, the performance is given to nearly a half-million people. He banters with the crowd as he delivers some of his signature tunes with élan, such as “The Star Spangled Banner.” As the closing act at the Woodstock Festival, Hendrix becomes the epitome and symbol of its social impact as the event became a cultural icon for a generation, and Hendrix’s original rendition of the national anthem spoke volumes about a new age.
